Dr. Gina Z. Woodford

About:  Gina Z. Woodford, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been working in the psychology field for over 25 years. Early on, she decided to pursue a calling of giving back and helping others.

She grew up in Billings, MT; however, in search of warmer climes, pursued her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at UC Santa Barbara.  She earned master’s and doctorate degrees in clinical psychology at The California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University.

Her doctoral thesis centered upon the attributional styles of individuals with mood disorders. As part of her doctoral dissertation, she completed over 100 psychiatric semi-structured interviews. About half of her training was working with children and adolescents, and about half with adults. Internships were completed at South Bay Guidance Center and Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital.

She attained neuropsychological testing experience through an elective practicum in the neuropsychology testing program at the San Diego VA Healthcare System; working for neuropsychologist in a private practice; and at UC San Diego in the Department of Psychiatry. 

She completed a specialty two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the San Diego Veteran’s Affairs Healthcare System working in the substance abuse treatment program and Cognitive Behavior Therapy program.  She has worked in a variety of clinical settings including a crisis house, community mental health center, pre-school for children with developmental disabilities, inpatient psychiatric hospital, large general hospital, outpatient group practice, skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. Dr. Woodford has conducted psychological testing and worked with a wide age range of people: children 3 years old to adults 101 years old. She conducts individual, couples, and family psychotherapy and psychological testing for children and adults who have depression, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychosis, substance use disorders, various forms of trauma, ADHD, Autism Spectrum, and those for whom the psychiatric diagnosis is in question.

Mission

Driven by a commitment to promoting mental wellness, giving back, and lifelong education, Dr. Gina Woodford engages in on-going professional training to further develop clinical skills. She regularly volunteers her time at local public elementary schools helping with the spelling bee, and at local food banks.  She believes in the transformative power of therapy to facilitate positive change and enhance the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities.
